Project Overview

Pride Plumbing NSW was called to a Sydney home with a backyard that flooded and turned to mud every time it rained. The existing drainage had failed, so we carried out a full stormwater upgrade to get the water off the property and keep it dry year-round.

The old earthenware pipes had broken down and were no longer carrying water away. We replaced them and built a complete drainage system from the surface down, finishing with a new stormwater line running out to the street kerb.

Scope of Work

A full stormwater drainage upgrade on a flood-prone residential yard, fixing the problem at the source.

• Removal and replacement of broken earthenware pipes

• Subsoil drainage to manage below-ground moisture

• Trenching, gravel backfill and reinstatement
• Connection to a legal point of discharge at the kerb

Our Approach And Solution

We started by tracing why the yard was holding water, then dug out the failed earthenware pipes. From there we built the drainage in layers: a strip drain along the surface to catch run-off, subsoil drainage to pull moisture from below ground, and a new stormwater line carrying it all out to the kerb.

The trench was backfilled with gravel and wrapped in geotextile so the subsoil line keeps draining and does not silt up over time. With the system tied into a proper kerb outlet, the yard now sheds water instead of holding it, and stays dry and usable through wet weather.
